CLIENT CASE 2
EGLINTON PARK MONUMENT
Within
the grounds of Eglinton Park Irvine there is a monument sited
on top of an exposed hill, which due to the rigours of the Scottish
winters was showing signs of distress, with the columns spalling
and cracking.
North Ayrshire Council requested that we repair the monument within
a tight budget back to its former condition.
The work was undertaken in the spring of 2006.
The damaged / spalled concrete was removed using a combination
of small percussion and hand held tools to prevent further damage.
The cracked columns were repaired using various repair methods
including crack stitching using stainless steel rod and resin
injection.
The reinstatement of the substrate was done with a lightweight
polymer modified mortar with a strength compatible to the main
structure.
Once all the repairs had been completed the whole structure was
overcoated using a tinted thin coat levelling mortar to give a
uniform finish.
